Link Love & A Friday Freebie.
By MizFit | June 20, 2008
subtitle: we are all about the randomness this week (or every week. who can say?)
This first link is something we can never hear enough times. Im a firm believer in the notion that those who live their lives viewing the glass as half full live longer.
And, if I’m wrong and we dont (pats self on back for efforts whilst employing Law Of Attraction with regards to being positive), at least we live life more happily.
Take a moment and read this. For once I agree with all the points: one through ten. You?
I shall simply give you this next link.
Rant-free.
(ok almost rant free. may I say: YAY, IT’S ABOUT TIME!)
oooh, and much to your delight this link really needs no explanation either (we’ve more than established I HEART the bandannas).
This weekend I shall whip the Tornado up a visor & see if, unlike hats as of late, she’ll leave it on.
On a heebie jeebie note: have you seen this?
It’s a bit too much for me (and this from a woman who threatens to make earrings out of her dog when his time comes. It sounds crazy I know, but that way Id still always have him close!).
This next one is a link I need & yet Im not certain it’s one I’ll use.
Im renown for always being lost/getting lost even when Ive been somewhere before—-but I think mine might be more of a GPS need than a drawing all over my map with arrows & notations need. You?
Veering quickly & awkwardly back to our fitness & health subject at hand I leave you with this link.
If youre anything like I am you could spend the entirety of your two day respite realizing how little you actually know about the room in which we cook.
Or you could blow it all off & go outside and play.
Either way.
This week’s freebie? Not a glamorous one–but one we *all* need.
I’ll give you a hint—their tagline is Gyms are dirty but you dont have to be.
I’ll also give you examples of four treats you mightcould accidentally pick up at your local exercise facility: athletes foot, ring worm, staph, & the flu virus.
GymSoap™ is an antifungal, antibacterial body wash for athletes.
Let’s save the what makes an athlete discussion for a *different* post and just agree that all of us would love the opportunity to try this soap.
MizFit? She already has.
I love it.
Why? Because it’s thorough, gentle (v-e-r-y very subtle fragrance), & having had a friend contract a staph infection/seen how tough it was to get rid of Im not taking any chances.
The people at GymSoap have generously offered to giveaway five bottles of their soap (I know, how nice is that. wait till you see how it’s packaged. lovely.) and you can be entered to win for the low low price of a comment below.

Thanks for the hopscotching journey… very entertainingly informative on mulitple levels!
As for GymSoap and the ubiquitous staph infection… the Nurse in me will hold that discussion for later.
Have a great one Miz!

Love, love, love the heavyweight yoga link. You’ve reminded me of my own early days on this path when all I could do was “plus-size yoga” at home. Now I think I might be ready for a class. I’m checking it out This Weekend. (Thanks!)
June 20th, 2008 at 5:16 am
when I see women walking barefoot in my locker room or - way worse - sitting bare-assed on the metal stools while changing - all I can think is, “You are violating so many health care codes right now, it’s not even funny.” I freak out if a puddle splashes on my baby toe while crossing the street. Soap = good.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:38 am
Accckk! I’m supposed to think POSITIVE?? With a name like Crabby McSlacker I’m not sure that’s possible!
I have found that a certain amount of anticipatory negativity actually works well for me–as long as I make up for it by being extremely happy and grateful when things work out better than expected.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:47 am
Great links! A lot of the kitchen ones I had heard but long forgotten. I do, though, use a 1:1 mix of water and white vinegar with a bit of baking soda for most of my cleaning. Way more natural than the bleach and chemical cleaners.
I’m not too sure what to think about this GymSoap. But I am a big fan of good personal hygiene!
Happy Friday, everyone! Boy, am I glad it’s almost the weekend.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:58 am
LOVE the kitchen tips. Who knew a piece of bread would take away burnt rice stench?!
Pet Cemetary always weirded me out, now its legal? freaky.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:08 am
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the positivity article–that is totally awesome! I might just have to take the positivity challenge…
June 20th, 2008 at 6:25 am
I never get any work done on Friday mornings - thanks to you!
June 20th, 2008 at 6:39 am
I agree 100% with the power of positive thinking. Loved the article. The pet regeneration think is totally creepy. Although now I just found my nana’s birthday present. Thanks for the kitchen tips! As for the gym ickies, I just close my eyes and whisper “it’s good for my immune system.” What, ignorance isn’t bliss??
June 20th, 2008 at 6:39 am
I love the heavyweight yoga link; I’m all for people using props in yoga to get where they need to be. I was so inflexible when I started yoga, and some of the moves seemed impossible and frustrating until I discovered blocks, straps, and other props.
And I will (WILL DO!) be more positive today. Yesterday I was a crab, and the morning hasn’t been too cheery so far either. Life will be better.
*breathe*
June 20th, 2008 at 6:45 am
I always knew I was a positive Patty. Sometimes, too much so. LOL! OK warna girl before the gum soap link. I was eating breakfast and saw some fungi on a funky foot. Have mercy! I am done with my breakfast now.
Re: I live in Houston. I wish Austin.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:02 am
I love that link to the Positivity Challenge! And some of those 50 kitchen tips should be quite useful. And why not enter to see if I can get any GymSoap, too, while I’m at it
June 20th, 2008 at 7:04 am
LifeGems? Not for me.
But I think the girls and I will try some of the bandanna activities this weekend. They look like fun.
And I know DH will loooovvvveeee the quikmaps. This is the man that while deployed to Iraq, got us both online, instant messaging with googlemaps up, giving me directions to a remote area. Yeah, he’s a geek.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:05 am
and a GEEK methinks I aspire to be like and need, Nita.
M.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Wow i don’t think i’ve ever had so much info in one post!! Awesome. Would love to try that soap although i don’t have any fungus that i know of
June 20th, 2008 at 7:11 am
Last remark before I don my babyMamaBandanna (not yet twisted & twirled into a visor).
Am I the last one to see this CLICK HERE?!
talk about the polar opposite to my yoga linklove.
beyond.
seriously.
makes me wanna write a rant to Sephora (hint hint).

June 20th, 2008 at 7:12 am
I’ll have to check out GymSoap… We don’t have a cleaning crew here at work, and I’ve gone to my boss numerous times about the cleanliness (or lack there of) our locker room. Makes me queasy!
June 20th, 2008 at 7:14 am
Hahahaha - the Bag Lady is bookmarking the LifeGems site - wonder if they’ll do humans? We saw something on TV years ago about the amount of carbon in the human body being enough to make 7 fair-sized diamonds. The Cowboy doesn’t want to be buried, so I’ve teased him for years about turning him into diamonds - because he is a diamond-in-the-rough now!!!
And loved the kitchen tips link, but caution again number 12 (rubbing oil on your hands before cutting hot peppers) if you wear contact lenses! Wear gloves. Trust me! (Experience talking)
And number 18 - what self-respecting wine drinker has any left over? I mean, really, come on….
Great links, Mizfit!
June 20th, 2008 at 7:15 am
That first link is awesome!
June 20th, 2008 at 7:24 am
That article on being more positive- so up my alley! I seriously want to forward it to so many people that need it-ha! The kitchen tips were pretty cool as well.
I am not a member of a gym and those 4 goodies listed above are enough to re-solidify the choice! Ewwww.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:48 am
Kitchen tips were awesome. Never thought to put salt in boiling water for eggs. Cool.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:52 am
Love the positivity blog. Love it! Thanks for all the links today.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:52 am
So many links, so much love. I’m big on the positivity stuff. But the dog cloning? CREEPY. As much as I’d love to see my childhood pet again, I don’t want another one of him. Dolly was one thing, but Fido? Shudder.
I’ve heard good things about GymSoap. No staph infections for me, please!
June 20th, 2008 at 8:04 am
I love the article on positivity. It’s something I’ve given a lot of thought to in the last couple of months. I’m trying now to think of life as a river full of boats and we have a choice which boat to ride on. Every boat ends up at the same place, so why spend all your time on the Grumpy Boat when you could sail down the river on Joy?
June 20th, 2008 at 8:28 am
When our malamute was alive we used to joke about cloning him.
Now that he’s gone, I miss him. But I’m REALLY glad we didn’t clone him! (We ended up getting a dog from the ASPCA, and she’s awesome!)
Adopt a pet, don’t clone them!
June 20th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Cannot click on all the links…just came back from a workout that has left me drained and shaking.
That fatgirlslim cream pisses me off. Never met a real man who thought a scrawny girl was hot anyhow.
Baglady…whatsay we clone us a couple a bottles of good wine? Lazy cheap woman here just uses plastic baggies to hold her peppers for chopping. Oil sounds like a bad, bad, BAD idea….
Must now go lie in a heap….
June 20th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Oh, and the link to heavyweight yoga ROCKS!!!!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
June 20th, 2008 at 8:43 am
I loved the “don’t store your bananas with other fruit … or even with each other!” tip. I would feel pretty much like a squirrel if I broke up the bunch and stashed them all over the kitchen. Luckily for us, bananas are quick-moving fruit ’round these parts…but I will take them out of the fruit bowl.
June 20th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Needed that link on positive thinking. Will read and repeat for oh.. a month??
You.. and the gang.. do know about gmaps.pedometer, right? In the US, you can map walks/runs along streets and parks with mapped paths, track your distance and elevation changes. Great for tracking runs or walks!
Today I’m taking my dogs for this walk:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=240662.
If you want to virtually walk along with us:
http://astitchintime.blogspot.com/2005/07/walk-in-park.html (sans the fog on the coast).
June 20th, 2008 at 9:10 am
love the positive link–definitely need to print that link.
also a fan of the gymsoap! (but don’t pick me cuzz i already have some and want others to get it too!)
have a great weekend everyone!
June 20th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Marianne - you’re on!! We can drink them around the firepit tomorrow night, celebrating the longest day of the year!!
June 20th, 2008 at 9:18 am
About the positive thinking- like you said, even if optimists don’t live longer, at least we live more happily! Positive thinking does no harm, so why not do it, right? I love the idea of that Positivity Challenge.
That dog cloning thing is a joke… right? Memories of “Oryx and Crake” definitely coming to me at the moment…
I adore maps. Pretty pretty pretty.
From the kitchen tips: “If you manage to have some leftover wine at the end of the evening…”. AHAHAHAHA. Leftover wine? Not a chance!
Also I love the idea of that GymSoap! It looks SO good and everyone could definitely benefit from something like that. Happy Friday!
June 20th, 2008 at 9:35 am
My stomach turned when I saw the dog cloning website.
My Morty is irreplaceable and I would NEVER want him cloned eventhough he is most certainly the greatest dog that ever lived. When it’s his time I will mourn for an eon then go to a no-kill shelter and find another sweet friend.
Ick….. I am seriously sickened by that. I shouldn’t have looked at it mid-oatmeal.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Loving the kitchen tips list!
Sadly missing my favourite weird way to stop an onion from making you cry….
SUCK ON A TEASPOON WHILE YOU CHOP
I’m not joking, it works every time.
TA x
June 20th, 2008 at 10:05 am
TokaiAngel, you wouldnt mess with us would you?
I shall suck on a teaspoon, but Im gonna be MAD if Ashton Kutcher jumps out of my ‘fridge & Ive been Punked.
(now if Demi is along for the ride and wants to stay & chat about all the ‘work’ she has had done and how she feels about it—–THEN I might not be miffed)

GymSoap is so timely - I got right into someone’s leftover sweat on the good ol roman chair yesterday. I would think anyone looking at me at that moment would have thought I was about to keel over, vomit, or both. I had to go get the towel (the paper towel, from the bathroom, nothing fancy at my gym!), wipe it down, and scowl at everyone. EWW!
June 20th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Oh, singing while you chop helps too. Has something to do with breathing through your nose, I think.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Uh, your mouth? Whatever, something about breathing. That is my last comment, I swear.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:22 am
I love the post! The glass is definitely half full!
June 20th, 2008 at 10:51 am
I’ve tried GymSoap and its absolutely amazing!! It has this clean fresh scent, its not harsh at all and it does WAY more than your ordinary soap! I love going to the gym but HATE the thought of what everyone leaves behind on the very same machine that Im about to climb on, Gymsoap leaves me with total and complete peace of mind. Everyone in my household, athletic and non athletic, uses and loves it! Gymsoap is great….wonderful idea for a give away!!
June 20th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Wait, do those tips actually help with the onion? I usually just chop it as fast as I can and then run out of the room for about 5 minutes. During that time I grab a towel and wipe off all of my mascara because it is running down my face. Sometimes I have to actually leave the house and think I’ve gone blind!
I’ll suck on a teaspoon if it helps, I have no qualms about looking stupid!
June 20th, 2008 at 11:15 am
we’re supposed to wear mascara?

June 20th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I smell another open letter (*sniff sniff sephora*)
June 20th, 2008 at 11:54 am
The Bag Lady never has trouble with teary eyes when she cuts onions (she heard years ago that if you cut the root end off first, it doesn’t make you cry) — any other time, she’ll cry if someone gives her a dirty look…….such a wimp.
June 20th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Well, it’s all the make up I wear these days. And it’s only so I don’t look as tired as I feel!
June 20th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Although Jamie works in a gym, I am a recovering germaphobe, lol, and would love to try this out.
I love the way you organized this post. Very intriguing.

Hello, all. Thanks for the feedback and interest on GymSoap. I am excited for the winners of the giveaway. We feel that it is a great product to help PREVENT (we do not tout it to be a cure) the common fungus and bacterias found in gyms. Personally, I really like the smell of the Tea Tree Oil in it. It makes my skin feel clean without totally feeling stripped of moisture.
June 20th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
At the gym, I also get nauseous with the smells coming from the locker rooms. Will GymSoap help with this?
June 20th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
That cloning site weirds me out too. I don’t think stuff like that should be messed with. Life is precious and is all about change, if we can just recreate what we’ve lost then what’s the point? Everything would be the same.
Wow…rant much?
Long story short, no thanks!
June 20th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

June 20th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Sorry- i meant to reply to Nitmos-
GymSoap will definitely freshen you up from any of the odors as soon as you shower or wash with it.
June 20th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
” Im a firm believer in the notion that those who live their lives viewing the glass as half full live longer. And, if I’m wrong and we dont… at least we live life more happily.”
AMEN TO THAT! So true.
Thanks for the reading material.
June 20th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I am really trying my best to think more positively these days. I had an eye-opening experience just hearing my reactions to everyday things. I don’t want my daughter mimicking any negativity. I loved reading those 10 things and the other links
June 20th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Thank you for the link to the positivity challenge. It’s been one of “those” weeks, and I really needed to read this. Thanks again!
June 20th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
QUICK:
Thanks! Loved ‘em all. Except the doggie cloning. That’s just wrong.
I want Gym Soap. NOW.
June 20th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Great links… I really enjoyed the articles. I agree about the soap for sure and would love to try it - I have a friend who is in very, very good shape - a staph infection on his thigh nearly had him bedridden… I can’t imagine how painful it must have been (he said it was as he was being continuously stabbed in the leg by a hot poker).
June 20th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Love the positive positivity blog! Awesome and well needed!
Freaked me out bout the doggie thing….
Great kitchen tips! I need to try the apple in potato bag! Ours are always trying to practically crawl out of the cupboard! ewwwwwwwwwww!!
June 20th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Ok, the last link on your comment brought a smile…I love your link love, it’s like a scavenger hunt. After seeing the pictures from the GymSoap, I’m definitely going to try their product.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
I love you for loving heavy-weight yoga. Seriously. Thanks for not being all, “Fat people! Stop being FAT AT ME!” LOL (but only sort of LOL)
June 20th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Eeeeew. Those pictures on the GymSop website make me want to buy a case.
Tony
June 20th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
the dog thing totally creeps me out. i’d do the diamond thing, though, if i had $3000
June 21st, 2008 at 8:58 am
LOVE the kitchen tips. The more annoying thing about the Sephora link is that you know its a bunch of skinny chick buying that crap.
gymsoap sounds/looks lovely.
June 21st, 2008 at 11:46 am
Fat Yoga! Awesome…I wish it was where I am…or I guess I wish I was where it is.
I’m wearing a bandanna visor as I write this, and though my wife is howling with laughter, I think I look cool.
And as someone who always 1) smells beyond belief after a workout (especially since moving to a humid climate), and 2) is bound to get athlete’s foot or a staph infection if the risk is posed, I think GymSoap is an awesome idea.
June 21st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
ok about the kitchen tips, they are great, most of them, but some are myths (being in culinary school, i’ve experimented A LOT with food mishaps). about the eggs cracking, try using white distilled vinegar instead. and for fatty soup, heres a great trick, crack an egg white in the soup and let it heat up (but NOT boil), the egg white will coagulate and form a raft that seeps up all the fat. If its still greast after that, strain in by pouring it over a coffee filter. We need to make a classic french consumme a lot at my french culinary school and a good consumme has to have no visible fat so thats the trick we use.
June 21st, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I was intrigued by the LifeGems because nobody ever loved a dog more than me - and then the cheapass in me saw the prices and thought it best to let the sleeping dog lie.
I see no need to clone a dog. Holy Moly. Just stick with labs. Seriously - my black and yellow couldn’t be more similar to the ones that passed before them in personality. Maybe it’s the people and not the dogs????
Need a good protein shake/smoothie/drink. I know you’ve talked about this before but the person-with-one-too-many-jobs doesn’t have time to look.
Email me please.
June 22nd, 2008 at 5:36 am

Soap specifically made for the gym? Heck yes! Love this!
June 22nd, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Tthe positivity article was a great find!! Thank you
June 22nd, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Ow gym soap! I need this!
June 22nd, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Love what u do Mizfit! Pls keep it up!
Very interesting to see the reaction to the GymSoap. I had never seen it.
I use Tea Tree Oil for my doggy soap, however, will make more of the human version now. Like, tomorrow. The benefits of Tea Tree Oil are many.
Great post about the yoga and the positivity. the cloning is not for me although the diamond thing is clever. who knew?
Cheers!

[…] link for all the heebie-jeebies (that’s the technical term) I triggered last week with the cloning & earrings from cremation ashes […]
