I wanted to suggest the run/walk system that has been popularized by Jeff Galloway and others. It's basically an interval training system, but you start in very small increments and follow a weekly schedule. I could only run for 60 seconds when I first started a running program four years ago, and now I run steadily for an hour...or two or four... (I did a marathon last December). My point is wherever you're starting from is fine. Galloway also recommends a day of recovery, especially if you're over 40. Avoiding injury is very important.
