Not good but will work you out and put one in better shape than ever. Went through a serious off phase during uni where I was actually rowing and we had to try out for squads on ergs (seeing someone vomit after using said equipment is definitely a turn off).
But I do enjoy it these days, I like short and snappy, just doing a km, or sometimes going for 40 minutes and doing interval training in splits.
