Rhyme the Vote.

By MizFit | October 24, 2008

You knew it was coming.

(maybe? you guessed?)

A political rhyme

by special request.

Not slanted one way

or another please note.

My point? The jist?

Just GET OUT AND VOTE.

The great thing ’bout elections

is all of the stuff.

It’s creative. It’s SILLY.

(who’s hotter?! That’s tough!)

It’s tasty. Indulgent.

It’s cleansing to boot.

The stuff can be RANDOM.

though some of it’s cute.

The bottom line message?

Just Do It! Just VOTE.

Get involved. Take advantage.

(put down the remote…)

yes, People, as much as I am entirely, totally and unabashedly nagging you to be sure to take advantage of the fact we CAN VOTE—my treat of the week has nothing to do with the electoral process and isnt limited to the USA.

(*cue confetti shaped like international flags*)

The treat is, for me, the antitheses to this time of information bombardment no matter *how* important I believe it is.

You can be entered to win the meditation DVD for the lowlow price of a comment below.

On anything.

This friday we are all about mixing the votenagging with the mellowness. We’re nothing if not an enigma.

This week, I gave my kids in PE this lesson….to pass on a smile and/or a thank you to those who have helped them this week. I’m really doing it for all of us-me included- in hopes to calm them before going back to class.

Well, I would argue that an enlightened society is both free to vote and peacefully mellow :)

It’s a Bank Holiday on Monday in my part of the world and I’m heading off with the hubby and gang of friends for the weekend so it’s mellowness all the way for me!! :) Life is good.

I’m happy to say that I already voted! My husband and I received are ballots via the usps. We filled them out and sent them back! Done!!! :) I think they should send the little “I voted” sticker so that I can wear one too come November 4th!~

hey! looking at the outta whack alignment of the comments.

That’s pretty much how I look this morning as well.

on the voting thing I always find it weird/odd that where I live we can early vote.

Im all done with the election process (in that way) and yet friends and family across the USA havent even had a chance to cast their ballot yet.

    M.

  6. Natalia Burleson Says:

This is the first year that I’ve voted early and it does make me wonder how many people vote early and how that whole thing works! I’m thinking a lot of people must do it because I haven’t been able to find a parking space at the library all week.

  7. Marianne Says:
    October 24th, 2008 at 4:44 am

I’m not voting early. I wanna stand in line and experience the whole thing! My 40 year old brother is voting for the first time this year.

Gotta go make breakfast for the kids now…hope they don’t harsh my mellow…

    :)

    Still entertaining, Miz?

  8. MizFit Says:
    October 24th, 2008 at 4:55 am

    I’m ALWAYS entertaining, Marianne (rimshot!)

And I did stand in line.

I had the honor of exercising my right to vote by standing in a long line at a grocery while the Toddler pointed at strawberries & shrieked:

    I want dis!

(Which is totally what I did when voting. Pointed at my dude’s name and hollered: Dis one! Dis one!)

I’m not sure my little community had the option to vote early…it’s okay; I got no time to stand in line. I’ll be voting 11.4 with my village people…*cue music*

I’d love mellowness this weekend, but I get to drive my loving mother 90 miles to a bridal shower. And I suppose I’ll need to bring her back. I want to take the interstate; she’ll want to go the back roads. My way - 1 hour 30 minute; her way- 3 hours. Ummmm, we’ll be taking the I. I’ll need mellowness after this. So I’ll go to the gym.

    Have a nice day.

A comment about anything?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! News from KS this morning…….

IT’S COLD! The temp is 36 with a high today of 53 and more rain………so a wet cold! My house is 64 which feels too cold in the morning but I am trying to conserve a little so when the real cold hits we aren’t spoiled……..so I’m sitting here in thermals and a hoodie drinking my coffee which I microwaved after I poured it from the pot just to make it even hotter. Can you tell I don’t like the cold?

My day: Head over to my Grandma’s this morning to help her with her shower, then 4 of my sister’s kids are coming to play for 2 hrs and eat lunch. I will take them home at nap time and then maybe I can nap myself ;)…….or clean!

    Happy Friday!

  13. Crabby McSlacker Says:
    October 24th, 2008 at 5:21 am

I always used to vote absentee ’cause I loved to know nothing could come up and make it difficult on election day.

But now that were small town residents in a new state, I really wanted to go to the polls in person, to part of the whole thing.

It helps that virtually everyone here will be voting the same way. Oh wait… the lines…

But it’s worth it. The stakes are high this year.

  14. MizFit Says:

    AMEN IZZYBETH.

Hence the links for both parties and the ‘electoral process’ video.

    Now.

Topic change (& I may twitter this as I never know if people have time to read comments….):

Can you hear TAPS playing in the background?

That, oh Bumbling Band, is for my laptop.

Ren Man just hollered that it’s pretty much FRIED.

So no— I’m not reading your blogs today (anything great happening in your neck o’the ‘net? Feel free to shout it out in the COMMENTversation) & and *no* I have no back up plan.

    My question:

*love yer laptop? Was it cheap, light, not pricy, have a battery better than my dell behemoth possessed toward the end?

    Gimmie your suggestions please.

Miz, who would adore a Mac but can’t afford—-so Mac-zealots? Save your love ;)

  21. Donnalouise Says:

I find it annoying that I am not allowed to vote - being that I’m Canadian - but all my colleagues can and during the last election, hardly any of them voted!!! I was nagging them to get out and vote…but most couldn’t be bothered!! How frustrating! I told them that if they didn’t know who to vote for, ask me and they can use my pick as their vote. Nope, just laziness and lack of responsibility…pathetic!

  22. Gena Says:

i am envious of the political frenzy my u.s. neighbours (oops, neighbOrs) get into around election time.

sure, up here in Canada, we get lawn signs, and a small percentage of people get loud about voting..But you know how you can just tell when you are watching a movie which ones are Canadian made (not just made in Canada) and which are American? Our politics are the same, IMHO. Sort of..faded, muted, not quite as polished and SHAZAM as the U.S.

I think alot more people on this side of the line would be more interested (and therefore VOTE) if we didn’t have to be so dang humble and non shiny all the time.

I wanna go vote in YOUR election and i had to be dragged kicking and screaming to voting station lol!

I won’t be voting on Nov 4. I have to absentee vote because I’m an election judge. So if I can arrive at my polling place at 5 a.m., leave at 8 p.m. (no lunch break), go to the election board office and turn in my precinct’s votes, then finally go home and crash about 9 p.m., you can take 10 minutes to cast your vote.

Was that too preachy? Cuz this REALLY matters to me, can you tell?

Oh, and computers: I know that my (mac) was refurbished, which saves a lot of money. I think most of the major manufacturers do that. And my Toshiba lasted for six months. So I wouldn’t go there if I were you.

(hello random number generator? this is the number you need to choose for the meditation DVD. seriously. CHOOSE MY NUMBER. I’m meditating on that right now.)

if only that were a career. my rhyming I mean. it’s the ole IM SO GOOD OFF THE CUFF BUT IF WE HAVE DAYS AND WEEKS TO POLISH? IM NO WHERE NEAR THE BEST.

and what’s that career? (alltogethernow) Free style rapper.

    seriously.

I even named myself the Semetic Sensation (but never found the courage to launch my street corner career).

and in a YOU LIKE MEONTWITTER YOU REALLY LIKE ME (sally field? anyone?) here is the recipe you (the royal) emailed me in search of:

    MizFit’s Mishmashed Almost ‘Cakes

    1 cup egg substitute.

    1/4 cup cottage cheese

    1/4 Fiber One (original)

    1/4 cup dry oatmeal

1/3 cup protein powder. ANY BRAND. Read the label. You can use FLAVORED but just remember we want LOW SUGAR.

    1/4 cup Sugar free syrup

Blend the above Chickenbus in a blender and VOILA.

Now, if youre me, you shall find that each time you make these the batter turns out a different consistency (what’s THAT about?).

Sometimes it’s a bit too thin and Ill add flax seeds to thicken/too thick and I’ll dump in more egg substitute (pure protein, People!) or syrup (pure heaven, People!).

You might prefer to add some honey or frozen/fresh fruit to sweeten and you COULD lessen the fiber & use 1/2 cup dry oats and skip the Fiber One.

After the concoction is complete make pancakes as you would with any other (odd high protein) batter.

(I like to use a waffle iron every now & again for some texturizing variety.)

Go forth and find your blenders.

I’m on my 3rd HP after using 2-3 Dells. (laptops do not last me longer than 36 months. Rarely that long). Dells are supposed to be getting better and their CS is supposed to have greatly improved.

My suggestions: whatever you do BUY THE EXTENDED WARRENTY. It pays for my replacement battery every year and when the HP fan (which is a major problem with the HPs) becomes defective and fries some componant, the warrenty covers. Only thing that I believe extended warrenties are worth using for. laptops.

I already voted by mail…but I am hosting an election night party (obama-rama anyone?) and will have some healthy snacks out for us and some friends to enjoy as we watch all the results come in :)

Holly? you totally made my day with this:

I’ve always wondered….do you make up your own rhymes? Does it take you a long time? I love reading them and sometimes set them to tunes of songs in my head (weird?).

Im SO pretending that you are so dumbfounded by their awesomenessment that you cant believe theyd come from me.

    alas, yes I do.

and even more Seriously Can Someone Tell Me How To Harness This Trait I do the majority of them with my thumbs while ambling with the Tornado and then shoveth in the links when Im at the computer.

    it’s a blessing and a curse.

ask Ren Man. Im confident he is sick of them….

    1. I love that so many people are getting involved in this election.
    2. I live in Oregon, where we vote by mail only. It’s fun! You can do your research as you vote at your kitchen table if you haven’t made up your mind yet, instead of writing candidate names in code on your hand as a cheat sheet.
    3. I’m going out to the beautiful wineries to enjoy the fall colors and wine, glorious wine tomorrow! What are you doing this weekend?

At least we can finally say that the election will be over soon. In Canada we’re only allowed to campaign for like a month before the election. I swear I thought the american election would have been done by last year!

I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THAT, Randi!! The one monthish campaign. anyone else not know?

Your cakes? Hurlicious! No WONDER they dragged your ass to IHOP!

Laptop? My low end Acer lasted 18 months. Buy the best you can. NOT a time go to cheap. I have a Dell Vostro, and like it. ASK if you can get XP (unless you’re already a vista victim), because replacing all that software? BIG suck of money and life.

Got my 5K down to 31 minutes. It was not pretty.

During the Clinton era, I worked with a young associate and we’d have spirited Red vs. Blue discussions. When he left our firm, the country turned Red and he was VERY Happy. Since then, he has called me after each election to gloat. Something tells me he won’t be calling this year.

    Fun rhyme, as always!

Truly, I’ve pretty much done a 180 on the voting decision. It wasn’t hard to do after the debates started. And, I don’t think I’m alone in this flippage. At all. And I think it’s gonna be a landslide.

I just hope he makes a difference.

Anywho, one of my other blog friends Lori bought a laptop at BestBuy at a big discount. I bet you can get some deals at this time of year. Surely they are desperate for sales, since no one is spending any money any more. Good luck!

And I printed the recipe. Cannot wait to make it this weekend. Hope you all enjoy some family time on Sat & Sun.

Laura, wow! I haven’t seen too many people admit to changing their minds, especially this year. That’s great - and not just because you support ‘my’ candidate.

I think the ability to review evidence and then reverse course is a sign of a flexible & intelligent mind. More of us should try it. Kudos to you!

In my state (WA), or is it just my county???, everyone does the mail in thing. So not only am I going to vote, but I already have. I love how I screw up all those people that spend the boatload of money on the last minute advertising. I can officially ignore all of it now (like I wasn’t before…)

Since you said we could comment on anything we wanted, I feel like sharing that I am flirting with the last bunch of ounces to get myself under 200. woo hoo. I hate to vote and run, but I need to reach my goal and all….

    Go you Americans you!!

There are so many things I love about America- but the wide range of sweet and very cold treats like of Oreo frozen yoghurt is not one of them!! Nothing like a limited range to keep you on the straight and boringly narrow!

    Still catching up…

DH and I had a conversation this morning about the election, which is sort of rare - I tend to avoid discussing politics whenever possible, particularly as he and I usually DON’T agree on things. This time around, however, I feel a sense of urgency. Wonder why? :-)

I’ll admit I’m a bit jaded about the election process, but I do vote. I’ve always believed that if you don’t vote, you can’t complain. And you know me, I love me some complaining. :-)
