Thanks so much for asking the Freebie question–I’ve been wondering/worrying about the same thing.

We often all get the same PR pitches, and it’s discouraging to agree to one, then find out it’s been done to death already.

I think one thing readers might not know is how absolutely DREADFUL some of the stuff we get offered–they only see the relatively “good” giveaways.

I also wonder if readers know that those of us who do BlogHer can’t keep anything ourselves if it’s worth more than about 40 bucks? So we’re just as jealous of the winners as anyone else. Hell, I’d love a pair of running shoes or a fancy HRM or a bike or a Vitamix–but can’t get ‘em myself, can only give them away.

If they were straight out ads, we might at least make a couple of bucks, but we write about this stuff for free.

(Now I’m wondering why the heck I’ve been doing so many of them??!!)

I don’t mind the same give-aways all over blogdom.

The ad doesn’t bother me either. It just shows that the ad agencies are aware of how important blogging has become.

Thank you for allowing us to follow your tattoo experience. I’m really interested, at least in part because my son is a tattoo artist, but also because you’re a mature, intelligent person whom I respect. Your perspective on this will be really informative.
