BlogHer Conference 2009 & Giveaways.

Subtitle: Today’s post is brought to you by the letter F.

Favor:

I’d like to ask for your help.

A group of women, myself included, are working to get a panel going at the BlogHer Conference this summer in Chicago.

We want to talk about girls, body image and blogs & our session would be called Blogs & Body Image: What are we teaching our kids?

The catch?  We need to have a significant number of votes in order to get on the agenda.

Hence the Favor:  Im hoping (asking? tomato. tomahhhto) you will take a moment to vote for us.

You do not have to be attending to show your support (unfortunately, you do have to be a BlogHer member. You can sign up here.)

Once you sign in you should see a link that says ” I would attend this session” at the top of the session page just below the title. Vote and you’re done!

I know it’s a pain in the glutes—-but it’s a topic I firmly believe we need to have on the conference agenda.

THANK YOU!

Fab giveaway:

I loved reading all of your Personal Catchphrases. My plan had been to choose a winning phrase, but I quickly became overwhelmed & surrendered the choice to the Random Number Generator.

The winner?

ELLIE of the catchphrase Back up try again!

Email me your address, Ellie, & a really cool wish I had one for S.L.A.P. dog tag bearing your personal catchphrase shall be on its way to you!

Freebies: If you were paying attention even if you werent because SERIOUSLY how weird and awkward was that post?! you noticed a different structure to Tuesdays giveaway post.

The short version is Ive been accidentally violating the advertising rules up in herre (serious OOPS).

In order to comply and do giveaways or reviews I need to link to an *ad-free page* for both.

I need to have a teaser post & a click thru-thing and it all feels like, well, a LOT when I really just wanna bestow some treats upon you guys.

As a result, I’m may not have ads for a bit until I make some decisions/find new sans-strings sponsorship.

Disappointing rantage huh?

I pondered taking Nitmos’ advice & getting all Dennis Miller on your collective arses—but it’s just not the way I roll.

(And yes. I DO laugh that I’ve nary a treat for you on this day of taking a tremendous tiny stand.)

That’s it.

All the F’s I have for now.

You?

What’s shakin with you this Friday that you wanna get off your chest?

Thoughts, insights or questions on the Blogher Conference or panel?

Whatever you got—-F word or not—-please to hit us all up in the comments!(

(EDITED TO SAY: I hate to single anyone out like this but has anyone heard from Annette lately? is everything ok with her?  Just checking…)

  19. dragonmamma/naomi w. says:

Question: Is there a particular blogher group we should join? (Feminism? Midlife?)

Also, do I need my own blog? (I think I might be the last person in the world without one.)

  20. Was wondering about Annette myself… hope it’s just a problem with her computer!

Good luck on getting your panel recognized at Blogher – I have absolutely no doubt you will succeed!

  21. Melissa says:

Thanks for the shout-out to our panel, Carla!! :)

  22. Miz says:

d’mamma? Lemmie double check when I’m @ computer (I’ve also asked one of the other women to as well) but I’m 99% certain it doesn’t matter which you sign up for and NO you do not need a blog.

THANKS SO MUCH ALL OF YOU.

  23. charlotte says:

I voted for you! Good luck!

  24. SuperDave says:

Sry I can’t sign up for blog”her”. It just wouldn’t be right. Your gals will for you.
Thanks for the offer of guest blogger post. I wouldn’t want to do it until I get most of my weight off and can say, “see I done it!” I’ll take you up then.
    Thanks pal.
    SuperDave

  25. Haven’t heard from Annette. Getting worried but hope she’s OK.

Never heard of those rules for a giveaway. Is it just for a specific company or group? Sounds odd!

    Oh and I voted.

  26. Cammy says:

I’ll be revisiting the labs/rooms pages this weekend. So far I’m signed up for 183 panels. What’s one more?

  27. Meredith says:

I wondered what was missing/looked different!

I will vote later today after work!

  28. Graized says:

Hey Carla. I’ll vote, but I’m actually a bit intrigued. I may consider visiting for this. It’d be a good chance to meet you and Carlos. Is this lil shindig a Y-chromosome-free zone?

  29. MizFit says:

again thanks to ALL of you.

yada yada yada panel focus on a topic so dear to my ToddlerTornado’d heart.

Graized? come! Ive never been before but have been told men are welcomewelcome.

    Anyone?

    Deb Roby in the house?

  30. Christine says:

I voted!! I think this is an amazing topic to talk about. Its a huge problem these days and its certainly not addressed enough!! You are an amazing woman for doing this!

  31. mamaV says:

WOW! I am the friend of MizFit who will be on the panel with her…what an awesome community she has here!

I can’t tell you how much it means to hear from so many women (and men) who care deeply about this topic…I’ve dedicated my blog to it for over 3 years now and I’m not stopping for nothin!

To answer dragonmammas question, it does not matter what group you join so pick on that fits your style/interests.

Finally, you all gave me an idea. If we are chosen for the BlogHer agenda, I will conspire with MizFit on a poll to all of you. I am collecting a bunch of stats to use as examples during the session.

    THANK YOU AGAIN!!
    mamaV

  32. mamaV says:

Holy Nelly – we are up to 40 votes!!!!! Yippee!

The session with the most votes has 55 – let’s BLOW THEM AWAY!!

  34. Natasha says:

    My votes in! Good luck!!

  35. I think that sounds like a fabulous panel and I actually would go see it because it’s something I am very interested in. I will try to sign up and vote now.

  36. Lyn says:

I haven’t heard from Annette either. No answer to emails. I am so worried about her. She always answers emails.

  37. I voted. I think this a fantastic topic and really needs to be discussed. Wondering now I can convince hubby to let me leave him at home so I can attend the conference….hmmmm

  38. Sagan says:

I’m SO upset… I was planning on going to BlogHer and then when I went to sign up, they had sold out- only 2 days before! So now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t sign up just a couple days earlier. Sighs. Am on the waiting list but it’s not looking so good.

Okay, I’m done complaining, now will pop on over to vote :D The panel really sounds awesome- I’m just sad that I will be missing it.

  39. I would absolutely support a BlogHer panel like that! In fact, that’s a topic I hope to address more in the future on my own blog. AAAH wish I could go to a conference like that! SO cool. Glad to have bloggers like you fighting the good fight at least. :)

  40. Nitmos says:

Uh-oh. Did some Big Bad Web Boss slap Mizfit’s hands for the product ads/reviews? We can collectively rant all over them for you if you would like.

  41. Jodi says:

I’m heading off to vote! I’d love to attend the conference and that panel for reals…alas must save for the September wedding so no trips till next year :( I think the topic is definitely important and deserves to be on the schedule!

  42. MizFit says:

    THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I haven’t heard from Annette either. No answer to emails. I am so worried about her. She always answers emails.

I initially laughed AT myself…as though Id nominated myself the mother hen of the blog world.

But then she hadnt returned and I had to post something.

    hope she’s ok.

  43. deb says:

Well, since I work for BlogHer.. and CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU IN CHICAGO THIS JULY … it was a no-brainer to vote for your session.

    @Evan… we welcome BlogHims, too.

Other commentors: the conference is sold out, but most of the panels will be videoed and live blogged so you can catch up with them even if you can’t attend. I’m sure Carla & I will blog/tweet the details.

thinking you or I need to set up a BlogHer fitness group? (yes, I need to set up some crafty and gardening groups too.)

  44. erin says:

I am going to sign up for BlogHer so I can vote for you. I’ve seen BlogHer all around the blogosphere, but I don’t really get what it is. Is it just a collection of bloggers who write on various topics?

  45. Anna says:

I’m going to vote for you to on BlogHer! :) With how much I enjoy reading your blog – I’m sure I, as well as others, would love your panel :)

  46. Lynne says:

I will definitely register and vote after work (or when my boss isnt lurking around LOL).

You are such a healthy role model for your daughter.

I will be at Blogher and would LOVE to hear you speak.

  47. Marste says:

Voted! Wow, this makes me want to go to BlogHer! Will there be a YouTube (or other) link afterward that those who couldn’t attend could see?

  48. erin says:

Thanks, Miz, that helps a lot!

  49. The BlogHer panel sounds great.. I’ll go vote for you guys right now! I wish I could go!!

Good luck with the sponsorship decisions!

  50. FLG says:

Far out. Why are women so awesome? Seriously. It’s probably because I’m a guy (and maybe because I’m tipsy that I’m not even considering the ramifications of posting this), but women are pretty dang awesome.

I hope you guys get the BlogHer panel.

  51. Pubsgal says:

Done! And wow, what a lineup! I do hope to catch some of this session online, in whatever form it takes. Having younglings of my own, it’s a near & dear subject.

  52. Miz. says:

    you guys are freakin awesome.

    Thank you.

I promise no mo’ favors….till I get my dang book done & PUBLISHED.

    Then? Yeah, I’m askin’…

  53. OK, I voted – sounds like a fabulous session!

  54. Felice says:

Terrific session topic. I’m going to go vote for you! Even though I won’t be at Blogher :-(

  55. Sandwiched says:

    Voted…weeks ago! Can’t wait. :)

  56. Quix says:

I signed up and voted! :) Great topic. Friday is for Fast racing today hopefully!

  57. Becky says:

    I’m joining for you, too.

I absolutely believe your topic should be included…its E-SSENTIAL!

  58. Absolutely great topic for a Blogher conference! I will join for that.. in fact, I did but messed some stuff up due to my very NOT savvy computer skills! Will search for how to vote later! It is an important subject matter!!! Did you read Great Fitness Experiment today… WOW!

OK, for the “F” day… glad it is a rest day for me. Had an awesome but hard workout week. Also, can I bit-h. I am so tired of the perimenopause hormones!!!! YES, I am good but man, I want to overdo on my carb loving cravings but I am being good so far!

I respect your thoughts on the give aways too!

    Have a great weekend!

  59. done!
wish i could attend: ( oh well, here’s hoping for next year!

good luck, i hope it works out for you!
    xo

  60. Mary Meps says:

I signed up, but can’t figure out where to vote? I looked and looked and looked. Just not seeing it. :)

    Good luck with your conference!

  61. MizFit says:

You dont see it when you click on the session name above?

THANK YOU for even attempting, M.M.

    The voting is so confusing….

    Have a great weekend!

  65. mamaV says:

Ok I am having a heart attack, I can NOT believe you guys. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

We are up to 60 votes – that is the highest of any session on the agenda. Wow, now this feels real. Now MizFit and I need to get our act together and compose a kick-a presentation…

Out of curiosity, are most of you mothers? Not that it matters, since all women lend wisdom to this topic, but am just curious

    mamaV

  66. Myra says:

    Hi Miz,
As usual I’m signing on late, but going to vote after posting. Thinking about my life, my health, my daughter, my mother. I’m so happy to have found my way herre!

Now if I could just put down the chips, and lift the dumbell instead!

  67. Jamie says:

It took me entirely too long to figure out how to frickin’ vote (there’s my F word).

I’m not a mother, mamaV. I’m just some crazy lesbian hippie who believes that women shouldn’t be constrained by some ideal of what beauty is. Also, I’m frustrated by the fact that I find myself attracted to that standard in spite of everything I know about it.

  68. Jamie says:

Oh right! And I forgot. I just finished an article/video on alternatives for the good ol’ Plank. Been working on it for a while. Gotta hit those abs hardcore!

    http://trihardist.blogspot.com/2009/04/eight-great-alternatives-to-plank.html

  69. Aka Alice says:

I voted for you. It’s an important topic to discuss. I’m a mother of a 13 year old who just today told me that she thinks she looks terrible when she wears makeup (as if that’s a bad thing…) Oh lord…

I’ve belonged to Blogher for awhile, but rarely use the site/service. It was kinda confusing when I voted…I’m pretty sure that I clicked on the link that said “I’d see this presentation” but then it toggled to say that I wouldn’t…confusing…

  70. MizFit says:

Jamie I bolded your plank link because I LOVED your plank link :)

    and I also adored this:

I’m just some crazy lesbian hippie who believes that women shouldn’t be constrained by some ideal of what beauty is. Also, I’m frustrated by the fact that I find myself attracted to that standard in spite of everything I know about it.

    entirely.

  71. My two cents, I don’t think blogher pays us enough to dictate how we do our give aways! JMHO! I voted for you! :)

  72. Fit Mommy says:

Behind in my reading.. will click over to Blogher and register.

  73. SeaShore says:

    Voted for your panel :)

  74. Going to go vote for you right now! Will love to see that panel.

  75. Fit Mommy says:

Hey, what is an ad free page?
