Happy birthday Dr. Seuss!

because those who mind dont matter & those who matter dont mind.
All over the ‘net
today tributes there are.
Shoutouts to Seuss.
From near & from far.
Spoofs on the subject
of green eggs & ham.
Written by cooks
and lovers of SPAM.
I shall spare you an ode
As we do that each day!
The child & I
As we hangout and play.
We yammer ’bout Horton
& Bofas & such.
Because THEODORE GEISEL?
We *adore* you so much.
From McElligot’s Pool
What you’ve taught about life
From our minds? Never far.
Before you run off to start your own Seussian celebrations (do share! do share!) I wanted to share with you 6 things I learned about fitness & healthy living from the illustrious Theodore Geisel‘s books:
- Did I ever tell you how lucky you are? What I learned: Screw motivation. If we are physically capable of working out we are lucky. No matter how much we wanna whine, lament or moan about how bad we have it the simple fact we are ABLE to exercise makes us one of the lucky ones. This MizFit says: MOJO? SCHMOJO.
- And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street. What I learned: Use your imagination. A lot. Liberally. Things are never as impossible or challenging as they may seem (or even as boring as they may initially appear). Get creative. Choose to see life through the lens of WHERE CAN I SHOVE FITNESS INTO MY DAY? This book debunks the no time whine (creativity) & also reminds us never to listen to those who may scoff at our nontraditional methods (PLAYOUTS not “workouts” anyone?)
- The Sneeches What I learned: Dont waste time, energy (or money) worrying about what anyone else is doing! Everyone joining a certain blog challenge? Training for a marathon & you cant run a mile? WHO CARES. Focus on your own belly (literally & figuratively!) who cares what others are sporting on theirs.
- Pale Green Pants (AKA What was I Scared of? ) What I learned: Embrace fear. When we expose what we fear to the light of day 99.9% of the time we realize that there was nothing to fear in the first place! All fears. From fears of weight training (what if the guys at the gym laugh at me!) to ZUMBA (what if I look like a fool or if I cant get it?!) When examined many of our fears are pretty misplaced and we CAN CONQUER if we give ourselves the chance and take that first step.
- Horton Hatches the Egg What I learned: The importance of COMMITTING and not QUITTING. Period. No matter what. And a reminder about service being the rent we pay for living. That helping others when they may not be ready, willing, or able to help themselves (heck, or even appreciative). Sit on their egg for them if need be and if nothing else youll get a fab helpers high.
- Oh, the places you’ll go! What I learned: Avoidance does not work. We need to ‘face down our problems‘ as Seuss says. It’s only through feeling negative emotions we can work THROUGH and PAST THEM with minimal destructive behavior (be that behavior quitting working out, blowing our “diet,” binging or WHATEVER). Dont think these dark times wont happen to you. They will. For sure. They happen to all of us & getting off our healthy living path and BACK ON is all part of the journey.
So there you have it.
How Suess shaped my fitness life (I’ll bet you didnt see that coming) and a reminder to CELEBRATE today.
And you?
Wanna share *your* fave TG quote?
Long to join us for green eggs and Morningstar sausages ham?
Are you, too, making a pink clover to accompany the Horton image on my bumbum?

You know that I am
But what of this post?
No, this is no roast
For I think it’s the best
Above all of the rest
But I gotta stop typing
And forgo all the hyping
Cuz it’s time to go snore
Can’t play any more.
I love this Miz.
You are a rhyming whiz.
I am printing to save.
In the air I will wave
I knew you’d do something about Dr. Seuss today! LOL!
That is a very impressive piece of art, and the canvas is very nice too
I adore Horton Hatches too, Miz.
A person’s a person no matter how small.
What a fun post and awesome tattoo.
Is there a story behind it outside of the books?
My son love the Green Pants story, but I’d never thought of it in that light before.
Happy Green Eggs day Mizzy!!
Think and Wonder
Wonder and Think
Sink and Blunder
Blunder and Sink
These things I may do
But they make me new
each and every day
there’s nothing more to say
just do..do…do…
and be you..you…you..
It is his birthday
I did not know.
I do love your
tattoo though.
I just read Tia’s comment.
Is there a story??
We are so on the same page of the children’s book today…now I’m off to eat some Eggbeaters and whey!
That is a lot of INK!
Too bad Seuss never saw it
Sometimes I rhyme slow, sometimes I rhyme QUICK
But there’s one thing for certain, by YOUR SIDE, I’ll STICK
Your Tweets your Blog are Fantabulous, it’s True

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, Today is YOUR DAY!!!!!
That was FUN *giggles*
Love You Lots!!!
Monique
We will join you virtually Miz!
I think I am too tired to rhyme right now as back from my very early gym workout BUT I have to say that those 6 things you learned – amazing words of wisdom!
MizFit is full of wit! How about that from a tired mind!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I’ve written as someone who’s smitten
To a boy that smiles like liquid sunshine!
COME AND PLAY!! Like kittens just finding mittens
We bound away to celebrate a boy of mine.
So happy are we to find it fit’n
On this day to shout “Hooray! It’s fine!”
to COME AND READ what Dr. Suess has written
when my Sprout and he were born!
Awesomeness! So not what I thought It would be …maybe I should read this every day!
Thank you for this.
Lately I’ve felt amiss.
These reminders I needed.
Your wisdom will be heeded.
Do you think when he wrote all those children’s books he was being so intentionally wise and analogous? Or is it just that we all can find ways to read things into his fun words?
I do! if you ever have the opportunity to see an art show called The Secret Art of Dr Seuss GO GO GO!
he was a staunch democrat and conveyed this so deftly through his writing ostensibly
for little ones.
I had to comment on this one! “The Sneeches”!!!!! LOVE
You are so fun, Miz.
Do we get the tattoo story??
Good read!!
Happy birthday to the great Seuss!
Perhaps I’ll celebrate with some gin and juice?
A great post, as alway, Mizfit.
You always say the coolest sh…..
For my daughter I once made green eggs and ham
Using green food coloring spray like a can of Pam.
It was a treat for all and it was eaten.
Making time for family can’t be beaten.
G&J made me laugh.
laaaaaaaaid back with my mind on my money and my money on my mind.
#snoop
Dood. GREAT post and SUCH great sentiments. I cannot even relate the story of Horton Hatches an Egg because I will cry. I can’t read the story or I will cry. Just thinking about it right now I’m tearing up. It’s SO GREAT. Just commit and work and work and push and push and miracles that you’d never expect happen. No wonder I married a midwestern man, born of a culture that believes in lots of hard work, commitment, never complaining, and JUST GETTING IT DONE. Gut it out!
Also, Geisel is a huge donor to UC San Diego, my alma mater, so I’m even extra specially in love with the man. SO glad he was born. Thanks for shining the light of awareness!
=)
Wow. Total Jinx! We have the same blog title today. But mine is so entitled because I am lucky enough to share his birthday. I don’t have a favorite quote, but I do have a favorite memory: winning the blue ribbon in the oral book telling contest at my 4H camp by reciting and reenacting Horton Hatches an Egg. Great book, even greater memory.
Once again, Miz, you have hit it out of the ball park! with this post and the previous one about aging. I am printing both out to ruminate on for the next few days. I needed both of them SO MUCH today. I thank you for sharing your wisdom with all of us.
He was a genius. And I so loved your post.
Sometimes I can rhyme and do it well, I will boast.
But today I’m in a rush
So, I’ll just say this once
This post is so fabulous, I can’t over gush.
He is/was one of the Top Bananas for sure.
this made me smile. all of it… SO great!!
I bet Seuss Day is a National Holiday at your house! I love it! And I love what you learned from the good doctor. I’ll have to pay more attention next time I read Green Eggs & Ham for the elventy billionth time.
We are kindred spirits… read my post Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss on my blog dsgnmomonline.wordpress.com if you can. Thanks for your great post which I got via my membership to Bloggy Moms. Happy Suess Day…..
I had so much fun
when I read to my son.
The red fish, the blue fish,
hopping on pop…
When we started to read,
we just couldn’t stop,
We laughed at the Cat in the Hat,
and thought what a BRAT!!!
Horton was so brave,
all those Whos he did save.
When my baby was scared of the Jibboo,
I told him pooh-pooh.
You have nothing to fear,
your loving mother will always be near.
That’s all I got…
I didn’t read any of this post – on account of me staring at your tattoo picture…cuz I love it and I love you.
I so get the lucky thing right now. Been quite a while since something knocked me out for this long – I definitely am looking forward to be up and healthy and CAPABLE of training again.
And I love your attitude about life.
Seuss’s words are definitely ones to live by!! Happy birthday TG!
Love your interpretations! And I totally thought you and Helen planned your dual post titles today.
Ummm… wait… you have a Horton tat on your booty????
Okay, first I loved YOUR poem, but then all of the rhyming comments?! You have the best readers ever.
Whoa that’s a big tatt! Really cool too since i’m a Dr. Seuss fan myself =) I really like watching the original old cartoon. I remember seeing a marathon–something like a special on it once. I wish i had it in DVD.
