The one where I seek your sartorial help.

“Oh Mama. I love these. Can I have them when Im 16??”**

Oh People.

I am predictable and I realize this.

(Please to reflect back upon my many ramblings about how the word play here is MIZFIT and MISFIT not Miss. Fit.)

There are many facets of my life where I trust my gut implicitly.

Parenting.
Eating.
Relationships.
Eyeglass frames (ooooh foreshadowing!)

You get the idea.

I know what I like or what to do or how to react innately & simply proceed in that direction.

Done.

Lacking in the list above?  Shoes (non-athletic to be specific).

Overall I go with what I like clothing-wise and really dont think too much about it.

I let comfort be my fashion-guide (they don’t call me Jumpsuit McGee for nothing).

The problem occurs when, on rare occasion, I leap out of my comfort-zone.

Which leads me to my birthday gift to myself.

Purchased that day as a tiny five year old voice cheered me on.

We were both super PLATFORM excited–until we got  purchased platform-treats home & realized we (I drag her into everything) had no clue what to wear them with.

We both loved the fact each shoe came in its own home with its own little bag:

I immediately went for the skinny strong jeans:

comfy.comfy.

I love me some platforms.

While the Tornado enjoyed them with short-shorts:

(this image has been deleted as it was pretty NOT suitable for work-viewing)

So, oh reader, that’s the conundrum I toss in your lap & look to your for wisdom.

No fitness.  All fashion.

I adore my new taupe’tastic platform shoes.

I’d hate to surrender them back to the store & chalk it all up to an overzealous  YAY Im 42!! moment.

So I ask you: be my Tim Gunn, Carson Kressley me, & please to hit me up in the comments below.

**The Tornado practically had a panic attack when I explained to her we were allowed to return the shoes as long as we didnt wear them (I know. again with the we.).   I think she really believes all the clothing items she lays claim to now for when she’s 16 (?) will  be packed and waiting for her.  Where the notion of age 16 came from I have no idea…

  1. Mollie says:

    LOL!!
I can’t help with the outfit but want to see the shorts photo!

  2. Helen says:

    I love the shoes!!!
Wear them with anything from big bells to skirts, Miz!

  3. Lynne says:

I never have fitness tips, but this one I can answer.

    TIGHT TIGHT SKINNY JEANS ROCK!!!

  4. You are so ahead of me on all things sartorial, I can’t offer any advice. But I love that you can try something out of your comfort zone and totally rock it! For me, anything you couldn’t wear to a boot camp class is out of my comfort zone.

(Love the pants in the previous post btw!)

  5. shauna says:

A mini skirt, I reckon :) Show off those legs!

  6. Tata says:

I want to see the shorts outfit Mizzy, although I would stick with leggings or jeans.

Actually I would never wear those LOL I’m too timid.

  7. Karyn says:

WOOT! I can help with this and like Lynne rarely have thoughts to share on fitness.

I would say a short skirt for sure.

Share the tattoo & Ren man will love it :-)

  8. Wifey says:

    H.O.T!

I could see them with a fun flowing skirt.

Really cute. Keep them … if nothing else but for the girl.

    Winks & Smiles,
    Wifey

  9. Nelda says:

I like them with the jeans, Miz.
Now the TOP I am zero help.

    Love them!!!

  10. Erica says:

I’d definitely try them with leggings and a dress on top!

  11. Coco says:

I am so conservative with my shoes! I think they’d also look good with a skirt or dress (short or long). With the jeans, the shoes stand out, which is good. With a skirt or dress the shoes would be counterbalanced by the skirt/dress – also good. :-)

  12. Ava says:

Go on with your bad self!!

I love the shoes & jeans.

    LOL at the Tornado too.

  13. LindseyAnn says:

    Keep for “special occasions”. :)

  14. How cute that Tornado helps & wants! ;-)

First, I just wish I could wear any heel or any shoe that was cute! Yes, my Hokas are cute but they don’t go with fancy clothes or skinny jeans! ;-)

Well, I mentioned that I was fashion clueless & have begged Stacy & Clinton to pick me for years to help so I am just no help with this at all! Sorry!

  15. Fab Kate says:

I have to laugh a little at this, because I’ve had to start asking myself hard questions when I go shopping. One is “are these practical”.

I love things that are a little “off”… but at times it’s hard for me to draw the line between “fun and novel” and “just plain weird”. In the later category, I put things that can’t possibly go with other things, or are very restricted in what I’d do with them. For me, high heal “lumberjack” boots go on that category.

I’m thinking about the only thing you could pair them with is bleach washed skinny jeans or a denim mini.

What would I do? Well, I hate to buck the flow, but I’d take them back. Because if you don’t FEEL great wearing them because they don’t “go” with anything, you won’t wear them. And if they’re sitting in your closet in their cute little bags inside a box, that’s money wasted that you could use getting a fabulous pair of shoes or boots that would make you FEEL great when you put them on with your favorite outfit.

  16. Shelley B says:

I think they might look good with a longer (below the knee) gauze-y, flow-y skirt – kind of “Little House on the Prairie meets funk” look. Not sure about the mini recommendations – that might be too much of a certain “look” if you know what I mean…

What a fun splurge for your birthday gift!

  17. Brandi says:

This made me giggle :) Love the shoes!!

  18. Tara Burner says:

me personally, I’d wear w/one of my hippy gypsy flowing piece work skirts but thats’ me…the one who doesnt own a pair of jeans nor a mini skirt! it’s either gypsy/hippie or cargo shorts for me and thinking those really do not go w/cargo shorts! LOL
    love the platforms though!!!!

  19. Arlene says:

I say return them if you aren’t in mad love!

  20. MoninaW says:

I wish I could rock those like you do!

  21. Roz says:

Hi Miz, I read often, rarely comment, but had to on this post. LOVE LOVE the shoes! Keep them and wear them proudly. I like Shelley’s comment about wearing them with the mini….she may be right..gauzy chic will look fantastic!!! Have a great Monday!!!

  22. Miz says:

THANKS SO SO MUCH! I guess I do need to see if Im 100% smitten huh?
    I think I am.
I love the comfy of them with the jeans.

    I need me skirts.

    THANK YOU!

  23. Miz says:

Oh dear sweet JackSht. I expected more from you. A thong? hot pants?

    I await more snark :)

  24. Shelley says:

I don’t think I can add anything that hasn’t already been said. Jeans! leggings! Casual dress! That’s what I’d wear ‘em with.

I’d love to see you rock them with shorts, though, even if I couldn’t do it :)

  25. Connie Weiss says:

    Those are SWEET!

I bought something similar in turquoise for my 40th birthday last year and I have yet to wear them. I think someday I’ll wear them with jeans.

    Sorry…I’m no help.

  26. Miz says:

SEE CONNIE? Ready. Set. Let’s wear em together! :)

  27. roxie says:

I had an immediate flashback to Bobby C. in Saturday Night Fever.

  28. Mary says:

Those are so lovely, they should travel around the blogosphere like FitStanley! They would look amazing with cropped or Capri length dark jeans, maybe a bit of a wide leg, something that shows off the top of the boots. A flowy skirt of the same length would do the trick too. I’m envisioning you at a ski lodge in a glorious ensemble showing off the boots sipping a hot mug of tea. Passersby will ohh and ahh at your effortless fashion guru status!

  29. Teresa says:

I had to look up sartorial :)

  30. Patty says:

Very cute shoes! I agree with the people that say long flowing skirts.

  31. Rita says:

    No skirts, Miz.

Definitely jeans. Tight to show off the shoes.

  32. Deb says:

Definitely in winter with leggings and a short dress (even one of your “fitness” dresses). In the summer with a flowy longer skirt and a tank top.

Any time of year with skinny jeans…

  33. You have met me and KNOW my level of fashion sense, so the fact that I’m offering an opinion is…well, laughable. Still, for some reason, I think skirt when I see these. Any length or style would probably work.

  34. Evelyn says:

    Funky and classic.
I would definitely wear them with jeans.

Now, what size are they? I wanna borrow :)

  35. FUN! A Must have! And they (you) look great in them with the strong jeans…and I agree with AskWifey above if nothing else for the Tornado

  36. misszippy1 says:

You know….if you love them, keep them!

  37. Quix says:

I can see them with bootcut jeans too for a more casual look, or with a miniskirt/dress (but I think not flowing – either tight, body hugging, or if flowing, definitely above the knee. I am a huge fan of boots with skirts (it’s what I live in half the winter), but if they’re too long, the awesome of the boot gets lost.

Miss Parker here exemplifies what I’m thinking of: http://www.myfashionlife.com/archives/2008/06/02/mtv-movie-awards-2008-the-best-of-the-gold-carpet/

This is about as long as I would go: http://lookbook.nu/look/190197

Shorts obviously would be good too. :) Enjoy those birthday shoes!!!

  38. Emmie says:

These can be worn lots of ways, from boho-chic to downright preppy.
    - with your skinny jeans and a flowing top
    - with shorts
    - with long flowy skirts
    - with short denim skirt with black sheer pantyhose, a cable knit sweater and bright scarf (for the fall/winter)
    - with tights and a super oversize chunky knit sweater
    - with tights OR shorts and a tank top and a sheer gauzy oversize top over the tank (menswear inspired)
    - with a short shift dress and long funky necklace

If you need photo references, I can pull some together. Yay shoes!

  39. Jeannie says:

Lol! I would be at a complete loss too! No fashion style here and I’m always wearing the athletic stuff.

  40. I am no help here, but this had me cracking up since I’m also the comfy one. I have to have my friends pick out my clothes when we really “go out.”

  41. charlotte says:

This is so totally something I would do! I’d pair them with a flirty little sundress (for contrast – I’m all about the combat boots/dress combo, 90′s child? yes I am) or with the new skinny cargo khakis. I wish I could sit on your bed and go through your closet and watch the Tornado play dress up and just laugh:)

  42. Kerri O says:

I would wear them with a blue (dark or light) or white denim skirt…or ripped up faded blue jeans. But then again, I’m big on the destructed denim ;) LOVE the shoes.

  43. Miz says:

please move in with me. all of you.

  44. Liz says:

I like the jeans you’ve got on!!!

  45. tricia says:

skinny jeans (jean jean) :) with flowy top to offset any inplied hoochieness from tight tight and high heels. In other words, no tight top too. (of course I dont have your abs…) or flowy bottom with more fitted top.opposite

    love them!

  46. Amanda says:

Oh my heart! I would completely hurt myself if I tried to walk in those shoes! You are my hero! :) They are really cute though!

  47. Dana says:

Love them! I would wear them with jeans or skirts. I think it is all about loving them and just saying who cares — I love my look.

I think with the right top you could seriously wear them with your legging pants/jeggings thing.

    LOVE!

  48. Rosa says:

I don’t think about age. I think about fit and style suitable for my body. You look amazing. You wear them to your heart’s content.

  49. TwoDiffSocks says:

WHERE did you get those shoes?! i soooo want a pair! thanks

  50. Kelley Burrus says:

Girl, you’re finding your inner DIVA! Love. Can’t wait to see you strut your stuff at H.E.B. xoxoxo

  51. Georgia says:

Gorgeous! I’d pair them with some opaque tights and a cute little skirt/dress :)
